Orleans is a lower cape town that has a population of roughly 6,000 residents. Much like most of the area, Orleans had a history of fishing, whaling and agriculture industries. Tourism for the town had a slower start but was then fueled by the creation of the Cape Cod National Seashore which was over 40,000 acres of ponds, woods and beachfront that was created by President John F. Kennedy in the early 1960’s. Today it is enjoyed by its year round residents and visitors alike for its countless inlets, islands, harbors and coves where recreational activities are abundant.
